We took a deep breath, a long creative pause. And we came up with a design more beautiful than our first attempt. It flows nicely, sits perfectly in the landscape, uses the stones from the derelict farmhouse, has some unusual features and is very us. Now for the tedious design chores that nobody ever writes about: finding the right size of window for every room, creating lighting solutions for internal spaces far away from a window, making sure the guestrooms are a spacious enough to hold double beds… and where does the loo go in the master bathroom?

H took a trip to Italy for more architect meetings and to view the new cleared site in person. Rather depressingly the stacks of salvaged roof tiles were stolen a few days later …

Just back from Le Marche and some good meetings with our architect! Ermanno has taken our own amateurish designs and produced something actually buildable from them. We managed to fit in two meetings while we were there, at the first we saw his initial designs and then after we spent an evening pouring over them with a bottle of wine (not literally!) we went back to discuss quite a few changes.

Now we await the revised plans!

First though, down to work, we need to sort out some clearance of the undergrowth that is making measurements rather tricky at the moment. As you can see, there is a lot to cut away…

Siamo tornati nelle Marche la settimana scorsa per firmare il contratto, quindi finalmente, su giovedi ventidue luglio – dopo quasi un anno – la casa è nostra!
